1. A boutique hotel in Santa Teresa that trades the beach circus for something genuinely cooler: hilltop views over the bay, a neo-colonial building that used to be a coffee plantation, and rooms that have hosted everyone from Snoop Dogg to Richard Branson. The terrace bar does Brazilian rums properly, and the onsite restaurant is considered one of Rio's finest. Artsy, a little eccentric, and very easy to never want to leave.
