The Best Places in 광희동 & around

  1. Rank 1. La Yeon

    Contemporary Korean

Floor-to-ceiling windows on the 23rd floor of the Shilla Hotel frame a sweep of Seoul skyline, though the contemporary Korean tasting menu tends to pull focus back to the table fairly quickly. The kitchen works with the classics rather than against them, keeping flavors clean and recognizable while quietly updating the techniques behind them. Two Michelin stars. Service is formal without being stiff, which at this altitude is harder than it looks.

  2. Rank 2. Geumdwaeji Sikdang

    Korean Barbecue

A gold-on-white-tile sign and a queue that stretches well past peak hours mark this Sindang-dong barbecue spot. Cast-iron grills over coal briquettes keep the heat steady while premium pork cuts render down into something firm, fatty, and deeply juicy. It's the kind of Korean barbecue restaurant that earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand by doing one thing with total commitment, and the line outside is the only argument anyone needs to make.

  3. Rank 3. Sobakeeri Suzu

    Korean buckwheat Japanese Noodle Shop

  4. Floor-to-ceiling windows on the 23rd floor give the dining room a view over Seoul that does a lot of the heavy lifting before the food arrives. Continental is the Shilla Hotel's long-running French fine dining restaurant, an old-school institution that has threaded seasonal Korean ingredients through classic French technique for longer than most of its guests can remember. The staff are the kind who refold your napkin when you stand up.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
