About Best, Etc.
Most places aren't here. The best ones are.
Best, Etc. is a record of the world's best places to eat, drink, stay, and see, kept the way a record should be kept. We don't review places ourselves, and we don't count star ratings from strangers. Instead, we gather what the world's professional reviewers have already decided: the Michelin Guide, the James Beard Foundation, the World's 50 Best, Forbes Travel Guide, and dozens more. Every honor a place has earned is distilled into one score, and the evidence behind it is printed right on the page, strongest first. How we score explains the whole method.
A few things we hold to: no place can pay to be listed, and no place can pay for a better score. The only way in is to have earned professional recognition. When an award ages, the score says so. When we're wrong about a fact, we want to hear about it.
Best, Etc. is built and edited by Chris Hall (with tons of help and advice from Ley), who reads every award list, every correction, and every email. Write to chris@bestetc.com, or see the contact page for the specific doors.
