The 100 Best Places to Eat in Copenhagen

Sections

Tap another section to add it.

The best places to eat in Copenhagen, according to the experts: The 50, Michelin Guide, and White Guide have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Alchemist comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in København.

More Less

Kadeau and Restaurant Jordnær hold the next two places. White Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Michelin Guide next.

Departments

  1. Dinner here runs six-plus hours across several rooms, including a planetarium dome that swings open above your head. Alchemist is a theatrical tasting-menu restaurant where each course doubles as social commentary: crack open a coffin-shaped confection (child labour), dip into a cod-eye jelly hiding caviar (surveillance). Two Michelin stars, a spot at number five on the World's 50 Best list, and reservations that require the patience of a monk.

  2. Bornholm, a small Danish island, supplies most of what ends up on the table here, its particular climate coaxing figs and cherries that taste like themselves. Kadeau is a fine dining tasting-menu restaurant holding three Michelin stars and a spot on the World's 50 Best list, so the room takes the cooking seriously and the cooking returns the favor. Preservation techniques run through the menu, meaning summer arrives at your table in the middle of a Copenhagen winter.

  3. Rank 1. Restaurant Jordnær

    Creative Seafood

A chawanmushi that arrives in architectural layers sets the tone at this fine dining room in suburban Gentofte, where the cooking moves between spare precision and obsessive detail without losing the thread. Seafood and vegetables do most of the work, handled with a technical seriousness that has earned three Michelin stars and a spot on the World's 50 Best list. The room is polished, the service warm, and the tasting menu long enough that you should probably cancel your morning.

  4. Rasmus Kofoed's three-Michelin-star tasting menu restaurant sits on the eighth floor of a football stadium, which is either the most Copenhagen thing imaginable or the least. Around fifteen courses move through biodynamic vegetables, foraged plants and berries, and seafood from non-endangered species, all plated with the kind of precision that makes you feel slightly underdressed even if you aren't. The wine cellar is enormous. The park views help.

  5. Rank 5. Koan

    Contemporary Korean

A traditional Korean twisted doughnut, reimagined in feather-light brioche with sesame butter and ginseng honey, gives you the measure of what Koan is doing. This is a multi-course tasting menu restaurant where Korean heritage and technique quietly run everything, even when the result looks entirely European. The cooking holds two Michelin stars, and the service is polished without feeling stiff, which at this level is harder than it sounds.

  6. Rank 7. akmē

    French Fusion Japanese

Sixteen seats at a counter in a former industrial harbour, where two chefs talk you through nearly twenty courses of Japanese-French omakase while plating them inches from your face. Danish langoustine, Breton oyster, Breton this, Japanese that, it sounds like a geography lesson until a dish arrives and the argument ends. The room is young and loose for a Michelin-starred tasting menu, which is either a relief or suspicious, depending on your priors.

  7. Opposite the King's Garden in a listed building, Alouette is an intimate tasting-menu restaurant where fire and smoke run quietly through most of what the kitchen sends out. The room has a warm, 1970s-ish palette of browns and beige, and every course arrives with a small account of who grew or caught it. The chef holds a Michelin star, and the sourcing is the kind that takes longer to arrange than to explain.

  8. A former gunpowder store on the semi-wild waterfront at Margretheholm, Aure is a Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant where the rough-hewn setting and restrained plating quietly undersell what's happening in the kitchen. The chef's combinations are precise and layered, coaxing real depth from exceptional produce without fuss or theatrics. The service team match the room's calm without losing any warmth. Copenhagen's most unlikely address for this kind of cooking.

  9. Rank 7. ESSE

    Californian

Fermented potato bread and a US rap soundtrack inside an 1895 warehouse: this is a creative tasting-menu restaurant from a locally known Californian chef, and it holds a Michelin star. Terrazzo floors, graffitied walls, and rows of fermenting jars in the open kitchen set the mood. The cooking draws from organic, regenerative farms and treats every part of every ingredient as fair game, which sounds like a manifesto until the food arrives.

  10. Finn Juhl furniture fills the softly lit dining room in Frederiksberg, which feels like eating inside a design museum, if the museum had a Michelin star and a serious Burgundy list. This is a modern tasting-menu restaurant with an unusually democratic twist: you pick five courses from roughly a dozen on offer, rather than surrendering the evening to a fixed procession. The cooking is precise and composed, the wine list leans confidently French, and the whole thing runs with neighborhood warmth.

  11. Rank 7. Jatak

    Modern Pan-Asian

The tasting menu here tracks 24 solar micro-seasons, which is either the most poetic way to run a kitchen or proof that Danes have too much time in winter. Either way, the food at this cozy suburban counter-seat spot is the argument: Danish vegetables from organic farms, shaped by Asian technique, with food waste quietly becoming miso and shoyu next door. It holds a Michelin star. Sit at the counter if you can.

  12. The old millhouse on the canal has been standing since before Denmark had a postal code, and the kitchen inside it earns a Michelin star treating that heritage with quiet seriousness. Chef Christoffer Sørensen runs a refined tasting-menu restaurant where vegetables and seafood carry the weight, lifted by deep, almost brooding sauces. A tartlet of potato skins with pickled elderflowers and caviar gives you the idea: nothing showy, everything considered.

  13. Rank 7. Marchal

    Contemporary French

The floor-to-ceiling wine cellar is the first thing you clock, then the windows looking out over Kongens Nytorv. This one-Michelin-star hotel restaurant inside the Hotel d'Angleterre serves classical French cooking with a Danish lean, the kind of room where crêpes Suzette feels less retro than simply correct. It's formal without being stiff, and the Royal Square view makes the whole thing feel like Copenhagen is performing just for your table.

  14. Cookery books line the shelves of this intimate basement dining room inside the Park Lane Copenhagen hotel, which sets the tone nicely: this is a place that takes food seriously without taking itself too seriously. The chef's classically inspired tasting menu leans on Nordic seafood, foraged coastal plants, and locally grown vegetables, and it holds a Michelin star. Bring someone who appreciates a good juice pairing as much as a wine list.

  15. Rank 7. Sushi Anaba

    Edomae Sushi

A Danish chef who trained as a sushi apprentice in Tokyo runs this 15-seat Edomae nigiri counter inside a reassembled 19th-century customs house in Nordhavn. The room is anchored by a Douglas Fir counter, and the cooking rewards the kind of attention that notices three-vinegar rice served at body temperature. A Michelin star and a White Guide Global Masters distinction. Serious omakase territory, dressy but not stuffy.

  16. A red-brick villa in Hellerup, renovated to a high gleam but old-school in its bones. Every table starts the same way: the chef and the whole team receive guests together at a circular marble bar for a welcome drink before seating. From there, the open kitchen runs the show, turning serious Danish produce into boldly flavoured modern dishes. A Michelin star sits here, alongside a wine cellar stocked with prestige champagnes for anyone who needs to feel the occasion.

  17. A yellow building in Copenhagen's Latin Quarter, where drinks in the courtyard ease you into what comes next. Udtryk, Danish for "expression," runs a tasting menu that pulls from both Asian and European traditions without announcing itself too loudly about it. The cooking is refined and genuinely curious, wagyu alongside Danish eel, Norwegian scallops with gingko nuts. It holds a Michelin star.

  18. The vaulted basement of a 17th-century palace is doing some heavy lifting as a dining room, and a|o|c leans into it with handcrafted oak, soft lighting, and a sommelier-founded wine cellar that takes up a wall of glass. This two Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant runs precise, ingredient-led tasting menus with quiet global detours, the kind of place where the piano soundtrack feels entirely appropriate and nobody is overdressed.

    The awards

  19. The name means anarchy, and the menu more or less lives up to it: sharing plates that pull techniques and seasonings from all over without any particular loyalty to a single tradition. It's a neighborhood restaurant near Peblinge Sø, casual and lively, with prices that keep the room full of regulars who seem to know the drill. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand. Wines and spirits roam as freely as the food.

  20. Rank 20. Bobe

    Modern Bistro

A relaxed bistro on a cobbled Old Town square, run by local celebrity chef Bo Bech, with smørrebrød at lunch and honest evening plates built around local ingredients. The open kitchen runs quietly, which sets the tone for the whole room. The basement wine bar is worth arriving early for. The Michelin Guide awards it a Bib Gourmand.

  21. Rank 20. Calma

    European

Calma sits on Jægersborggade, a cobbled street that seems to have more character per metre than most entire neighbourhoods. It's a casual neighbourhood restaurant serving French and Italian dishes with a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an open kitchen that keeps the room feeling alive, and bright art popping off light blue walls. Locals fill it early and often, which tells you what you need to know about the pricing.

  22. Rank 20. Enomania

    Italian

The name translates to "wine mania," and with over a thousand bottles leaning heavily on Burgundy and Piedmont, the obsession is well-documented. This unfussy Italian trattoria on Vesterbrogade holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and runs a weekly changing menu of straightforward, tradition-respecting dishes, the kind where creamy mushroom risotto arrives alongside braised wild boar. There's a wine cellar for tastings, and regulars who never need to see the list.

  23. Rank 20. Graziano

    Tuscan

Wine racks and boxes cover the walls at this snug Italian trattoria, and everything in the glass is from the peninsula. The menu is built around the chef's grandfather's Tuscan recipes, which means this is a place where the food has a face and a family story attached. Tables are close enough that you'll know your neighbour's order, and the service feels like it. The Michelin Guide picked it up with a Bib Gourmand.

  24. Terrazzo floors, green banquettes, and polished larch panels set a 1960s Riviera tone that somehow perfectly frames a menu split between Japan and Italy. This is a proper sit-down restaurant where the two cuisines share the card without apologizing to each other. Start with cocktails at the bar, then settle in for whatever hybrid the kitchen is feeling that evening. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand.

  25. Street art murals of pinecones and seaweed cover the walls of three dimly lit rooms on one of Copenhagen's oldest streets, which sets the tone at this lively modern restaurant. The young team keeps things unfussy: six dishes each evening, and you can pick across the card or let the kitchen decide. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the kind of place that fills up with locals who already know the drill.

  26. Stripped-back sibling to the Michelin-starred a|o|c, this casual diner sits in the Christianshavn dockside development with the low-key confidence of somewhere that knows it doesn't need to try hard. The cooking leans into Danish produce with real technique behind it, though nothing about the room or the service signals that. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, which fits: serious food, relaxed prices, no ceremony.

  27. Rank 20. Paesàno

    Neapolitan Italian

  28. Savoury waffles and unfussy sharing plates in a room that looks like the contractors left early, concrete pillars and all. Pluto is a casual, always-packed restaurant where the menu runs wide, the pasta earns its place, and natural wines fill the gaps. The Michelin Bib Gourmand signals the value without the ceremony. Grab a spot at the long metal bar or the communal marble tables and settle in with whatever the kitchen feels like sending out.

  29. A neighborhood smørrebrød spot in Copenhagen where lunch means open-faced sandwiches on housemade rye and sourdough, and dinner flips to a multi-course tasting menu. The kitchen keeps one foot in Danish tradition and uses the other to wander somewhere more contemporary. House-made snaps and aquavit suggest a team that finds the bar as interesting as the kitchen. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, and the queue outside most days makes the case plainly enough.

  30. Chalked-up blackboards, whitewashed walls, and tables small enough to force conversation: Silberbauers is a French bistro doing its level best to make Jægersborggade feel like a side street off the Seine. The menu leans into Provence and seafood combinations, though it covers enough ground to land somewhere between saucisse de Toulouse and crêpes suzette before the night is out. The Michelin Guide awards it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks with the generous portions and relaxed mood.

  31. Rank 20. Surt

    Pizzeria

A Neapolitan-style pizza restaurant in Copenhagen's Carlsberg neighborhood, where the dough ferments long enough to stay thin and light while somehow holding up whatever goes on top. The mostly Italian staff moves quietly and efficiently, and the marinara has a way of becoming a second order before you've noticed. Ranked in the 50 Top Pizza Europe and World lists, with a Pizza of the Year award for 2026.

  32. Rank 33. à terre

    Nordic French

A short walk from the Royal Danish Theatre, à terre is a small, intimate fine dining room built around French cooking rerouted through Nordic ingredients. The team offers a Signature Menu or a shorter option timed for curtain-goers, which is either very convenient or a gentle hint. The room has the feel of somewhere founded on genuine affection rather than commercial ambition, and the cooking follows suit.

  33. Rank 33. Ark

    Vegan Japanese

  34. Rank 33. Barr

    Beer Bar

Barr sits in the old Noma space on the Copenhagen waterfront, which is either a heavy burden or the perfect setup for a restaurant that wants nothing to do with precious. It's a beer-friendly, blonde-oak dining room serving comfort food from around the North Sea: frikadeller with red cabbage, wiener schnitzel, Belgian waffles with smoked marrow. René Redzepi is a partner, though the vibe is firmly cozy rather than reverential.

  35. Crystal chandeliers and bold wallpaper inside an 18th-century house in Frederiksberg Gardens make it feel like stumbling into a very well-appointed period drama. This is a Danish restaurant where lunch means classic smørrebrød and the evenings shift to a short à la carte and a seasonal menu. The rooms have genuine plasterwork charm, and the team manages to be enthusiastic without being theatrical about it.

  36. Ceiling fans, white tablecloths, and wooden bistro chairs on the mezzanine floor of an old building near City Hall: Gabrielle is a French bistro that makes Copenhagen feel briefly like Paris without making you feel bad about it. The menu runs classic, the wine list is exclusively French, and the garlic and thyme bread is apparently non-negotiable. A Michelin Bib Gourmand keeps the room packed most nights.

  37. Rank 33. Kiin Kiin

    Contemporary Thai

Tom yum prepared in a coffee machine is a fair preview of what this contemporary Thai restaurant is doing. You descend into a dim basement lounge first, where refined street food snacks set the mood, then climb to a dining room hung with golden Buddhas for the full tasting experience. The cooking is genuinely playful in a precise way, which is a harder trick than it sounds. Savoury creme brûlée, pandan ice cream lit with burning rum.

  38. Rank 33. Mark

    Bistro

  39. Herring comes four ways here, fried, pickled, marinated, or curried, which tells you something about a smørrebrød brasserie that takes its classics seriously without being stiff about it. The chalkboard turns over with daily specials, and the rest of the menu runs to Danish beef and deep-fried goose fat potatoes. There's a small drinks counter where the waiters will actually talk to you, which in an upmarket brasserie counts as a minor luxury.

  40. Rank 33. Restaurant Anton

    Modern European

Original murals, blue-and-white-tiled tables, and Royal Copenhagen china set the tone at this handsome modern Danish restaurant just off Nyhavn. The space has been around forever, and the room looks like it knows it. Lunch leans into smørrebrød with a creative nudge; dinner shifts to something more composed. The team behind Marv & Ben runs things, so the cooking is careful without being cold.

  41. Rank 33. texture

    Modern French

A basement dining room beneath a whitewashed townhouse on Sølvgade, texture is an intimate fine dining spot where the chef's Marseille upbringing, Moroccan father, and Italian mother pull French technique in quietly surprising directions. The room seats few, the menu changes with the season, and the duck fat brioche has its own reputation. It holds a Michelin star.

  43. Rank 47. Bæst

    Nordic Pizzeria

Sourdough pizza with a Nordic edge in Nørrebro, where the mozzarella and charcuterie are made in-house and the toppings lean on Danish organic producers. The crust comes out dark and aromatic, the wine list runs to orange bottles and serious labels, and the whole setup has the relaxed confidence of a place that's been setting the tone in Copenhagen for a long time. Informal service, strong bread, and a room full of people who know exactly where they are.

The room is stylishly spare, the cooking is confident, and the vibe is unmistakably a guaranteed good time.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
