The Best Seafood in Copenhagen

Sections

The best seafood in Copenhagen, according to the experts: Michelin Guide, The 50, and White Guide have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Restaurant Jordnær comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in København and Gentofte.

More Less

The Pescatarian and Hummer hold the next two places. Michelin Guide and White Guide show up on more of this list than any other guide.

  1. Rank 1. Restaurant Jordnær

    Creative Seafood

A chawanmushi that arrives in architectural layers sets the tone at this fine dining room in suburban Gentofte, where the cooking moves between spare precision and obsessive detail without losing the thread. Seafood and vegetables do most of the work, handled with a technical seriousness that has earned three Michelin stars and a spot on the World's 50 Best list. The room is polished, the service warm, and the tasting menu long enough that you should probably cancel your morning.

  4. A lobster tank in the corner, sea-themed wallpaper, and royal portraits watching over the room: this old-school seafood restaurant on Gammel Strand has been around forever, occupying the site of Copenhagen's original fish market. Bouillabaisse, turbot on the bone, and a wine list heavy on champagne and burgundies keep the menu suitably serious. The granite bar counter facing the open kitchen makes it comfortable for solo diners too.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
