  1. Rank 1. Les Amis

    French

White-gloved service and a dedicated cheese cart signal exactly what kind of evening you're in for at this French fine dining institution tucked into Shaw Centre. Chef Sébastien Lepinoy, who spent nearly two decades with Joël Robuchon before landing here, runs a kitchen that holds three Michelin stars, a Forbes Five Star, and a spot on Asia's 50 Best list. The room is formal but never stiff, the kind of place where the truffle server knows more about truffles than you ever will.

  2. Rank 1. Odette

    Modern French

A paper installation by artist Dawn Ng hangs from the ceiling of this three-Michelin-star modern French restaurant inside the National Gallery, which means dinner arrives with a side of actual museum energy. Chef Julien Royer grew up on a farm and cooks like it still matters, sourcing from small producers across Asia and Europe. The menu sits on a French spine with Asian inflections folded quietly through it. It holds a spot on The World's 50 Best Restaurants.

  3. Rank 3. Burnt Ends

    Barbecue

A four-tonne, dual-cavity wood-fired oven dominates the open kitchen, and the menu shifts almost daily around whatever the fire suits best. This is a counter-dining barbecue restaurant in Dempsey Hill, where Dave Pynt's open-flame technique draws a direct line from his time at Asador Etxebarri. It holds a Michelin star and a spot on the World's 50 Best list. Counter seats face the grill, keeping the heat and the theatre close.

  4. Rank 3. Zén

    Nordic

Björn Frantzén's Singapore shophouse holds three Michelin stars and a tasting menu that moves you floor by floor, aperitif and amuse-bouche downstairs, the full neo-Nordic progression upstairs. The kitchen leans on seafood and Japanese ideas without quite belonging to either, and the non-alcoholic pairings are eccentric in a way that somehow makes you trust them more. Worth knowing the restaurant is temporarily closed before you plan around it.

  5. Rank 5. Meta

    Modern Korean

Black awnings and concrete floors set the mood at Meta, a fine dining restaurant on Mohamed Sultan Road where Sun Kim's cooking is the real architecture. His menus blend French technique with Korean ingredients and Japanese influence, shaped by time in Sydney under Tetsuya Wakuda. Six and eight-course menus follow, composed and precise. Meta holds two Michelin stars and a spot on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list.

  6. Rank 5. Thevar

    Indian

Counter seating and green leather make Thevar look like a moodily lit sports bar, but the food arrives from a different universe. The chef trained under Guy Savoy and channels Penang childhood memories and Indian heritage into modern dishes that are lighter than tradition but uncompromising on spice. It holds two Michelin stars and a spot on Asia's 50 Best, and earns both quietly, without the pomp you might expect.

  7. Rank 5. Waku Ghin

    Contemporary Japanese

  8. Rank 8. Born

    Modern Chinese

A former rickshaw depot at a Chinatown crossroads, the triangular building alone stops traffic before you step inside. Born is a fine dining restaurant where glass ceilings and a suspended paper sculpture set the tone for chef Zor Tan's multi-course menu: Modern Chinese cooking shaped by French technique, with each course tied to a principle like Memory or Legacy. It holds a Michelin star and a spot on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants.

  10. Rank 8. Iggy's

    Contemporary French

A dessert counter with a global reputation sits at the back of this intimate 36-seat fine-dining room on Orchard Road, where contemporary French cooking picks up quiet Asian inflections along the way. The wine cellar runs to tens of thousands of bottles, which makes sense once you know the culinary director is also a sommelier. Iggy's holds a Michelin star and a Forbes Four Star, and has been around long enough to count as a genuine Singapore institution.

  11. A cereal box arrives at the table and turns out to be dessert, which tells you most of what you need to know about Labyrinth. This Michelin-starred fine dining room takes hawker-stall nostalgia, bak kut teh and all, and rebuilds it into a theatrical set menu where the props are part of the point. The room runs dark and spare, warmed by wood and Singaporean art. It holds a spot on both Asia's and the World's 50 Best lists.

  12. Rank 8. Nae:Um

    Contemporary Korean

Each seasonal tasting menu at this fine dining restaurant arrives framed as an "episode," with past chapters organized around Jeju Island, a sunset walk along the Han River, and a backyard barbecue. Chef Louis Han reinterprets Korean nostalgic cooking through Western technique, so cold buckwheat noodles become haute cuisine and a buttery sauce quietly channels a spicy fish stew. It landed on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list, and the intimate shophouse room, all cream and warm light, keeps the focus on the plates.

  13. Rank 8. Seroja

    Malaysian

The name comes from the Malay word for lotus flower and the street where the chef grew up, which sets the tone for what follows. Seroja is a 24-seat fine dining restaurant built around a multi-course menu of Malay Archipelago cooking, with counter seats that put the kitchen on full display. Mangrove wood-charred scallops with laksa leaf sauce are the signature. It holds a Michelin star and sits on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list.

  14. Rank 14. Buona Terra

    Contemporary Italian

A colonial house on Scotts Road holds one of Singapore's sharper arguments for contemporary Italian cooking, and it holds a Michelin star and a spot on the 50 Top Italy world list to back that up. The dining room reads elegant without trying too hard, and the menu leans on seafood dishes where restraint is the whole point. Dry pasta shows up in several forms, which in this context feels almost defiant.

  20. Rank 20. Torno Subito

    Regional Italian

Massimo Bottura's regional Italian restaurant sits in the converted colonial bungalows of Dempsey Hill, and the dining room goes full Riviera fantasy, bright colors and all. The cooking is rooted in Romagna, with a la carte or a six-course tasting menu, and the pizza is taken seriously enough that the espresso after feels like a point of pride. Ranked sixth on 50 Top Italy's list of Italian restaurants worldwide, which is a long way from home.

  21. The bread alone causes a small scene: guests are openly encouraged to ask for seconds, and the room obliges in unison. This fine dining restaurant inside the Mondrian Duxton pairs Chilean soul with Japanese technique, the work of a chef whose resume runs through El Bulli and Mugaritz. It holds a Michelin star. Flavors are surprising without being smug, and the kitchen's curiosity reads as genuine hospitality rather than theater.

  22. Rank 21. Candlenut

    Peranakan Malaysian

Buah keluak, a fruit that has to be fermented before it stops being poisonous, appears here as ice cream, which tells you almost everything about chef Malcolm Lee's approach. Candlenut is a Peranakan fine dining restaurant in the leafy Dempsey Hill enclave, holding a Michelin star, with the menu drawing on Straits-Chinese recipes passed through his family. You can order à la carte or surrender to the omakase, both paths ending somewhere unexpected.

  32. Ivan Brehm calls his cooking "crossroads cuisine," which sounds like a thesis statement until you taste Afro-Brazilian fritters pulling turmeric and coconut curry, or risotto threaded with yuzu kosho. The Michelin-starred tasting menu restaurant on Amoy Street draws from his Italian, Brazilian, German, and Spanish roots, with a sleek communal marble table designed to make strangers talk. Brehm came up at Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck, and the intellectual ambition shows.

  35. Rank 21. Summer Palace

    The awards

  36. Rank 21. Summer Pavilion

    Cantonese Seafood

The dining room sits inside a modern Chinese garden within The Ritz-Carlton Millenia, which makes lunch here feel vaguely like eating inside a very expensive terrarium, in the best sense. This is formal Cantonese fine dining, Michelin-starred, with hand-painted crockery and a kitchen that treats abalone as a given. The wine list and specialty tea selection are both taken seriously, which is a rare thing to say without irony.

  39. The dining room looks out over Marina Bay with the kind of view that makes first-timers forget what they ordered. This is a Cantonese fine-dining room inside the Parkroyal Collection, where the kitchen turns classic Chinese cooking toward something a little more composed and contemporary. The chef has been doing this a long time, and the plating shows it. A good pick if you want dim sum to dress up for.

  85. Kok Sen is a no-frills zi char spot on Keong Saik Road, which has since filled up with boutique hotels and cocktail bars that probably don't know it was here first. It's wok-fried Cantonese home cooking, ordered fast and eaten faster, and the Bib Gourmand has not shortened the wait. Put your name down, then spend the half hour studying how efficiently the staff ignore you. Bring cash-register patience and an appetite for gravy.

  86. Kotuwa is a casual Sri Lankan restaurant in New Bahru's old school block, and it's the first on the island to cook only the food of Sri Lanka, curries mostly. Seventies records play while servers set your spice level, so nobody leaves with steam coming out of their ears. Hoppers, the thin fermented rice pancakes, handle the gravy better than rice does. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which keeps the bill friendly.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
