Opposite the King's Garden in a listed building, Alouette is an intimate tasting-menu restaurant where fire and smoke run quietly through most of what the kitchen sends out. The room has a warm, 1970s-ish palette of browns and beige, and every course arrives with a small account of who grew or caught it. The chef holds a Michelin star, and the sourcing is the kind that takes longer to arrange than to explain.
