The Mandarin Oriental, Taipei is a luxury hotel that arrived looking like it had been here since the 1930s, all deep Art Deco bones and none of the glass-tower minimalism most new Asian luxury hotels default to. The rooms are among the largest in the city, the spa is expansive, and between a Cantonese restaurant, an Italian, a French, a tea lounge, a cocktail bar, and a cake shop, leaving is genuinely optional. It holds a Michelin Key and a Forbes Four Star.

André Fu designed the interiors, and that name alone explains the particular combination of dazzling and quietly residential you feel inside. This luxury hotel occupies the upper floors of a Songshan high-rise, with 86 rooms and panoramic views of Taipei's skyline and hills. On-staff "Culturists" run daily programs from neighborhood walks to local tastings. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.
