Rank 1. Buona Terra
Contemporary Italian
A colonial house on Scotts Road holds one of Singapore's sharper arguments for contemporary Italian cooking, and it holds a Michelin star and a spot on the 50 Top Italy world list to back that up. The dining room reads elegant without trying too hard, and the menu leans on seafood dishes where restraint is the whole point. Dry pasta shows up in several forms, which in this context feels almost defiant.

Rank 1. Origin Bar
Cocktail Bar
The name nods to gin, but Origin is a rum bar at heart, with 75 expressions on the menu and a cocktail list organized around five Singapore districts. It sits in the lobby of the Shangri-La, which gives it a certain hotel-bar grandeur, though the drinks stay firmly grounded in place. Asia's 50 Best Bars has it at number 60. Dress like you know where you are.

The towers and turrets have been standing since before Singapore was anyone's idea of a city-state, and the colonial bones still run the show at this heritage hotel on Scotts Road. Gardens thick with palms and flowering shrubs keep Orchard Road feeling farther away than it is. The 233 rooms lean simple and neutral, which reads as calm rather than cheap. A Balinese-inspired pool, a Peking duck restaurant, and a steakhouse mean you can easily stay put for a while.

Fifteen acres of tropical gardens sit between this Singapore hotel and the Orchard Road circus outside, which is the whole point. Its 792 rooms spread across three wings, each with a different personality: the Tower Wing skews family, the Garden Wing looks over koi ponds, and the Valley Wing has a private lounge and separate entrance for guests who prefer their anonymity well-staffed.

Rank 12. The Bar Kakure
Japanese Cocktail Bar
Sit above a sushi restaurant, enter with a code, and you're in a Japanese-style cocktail bar where exposed wood and wraparound windows look out over the treetops. The drinks lean into infused spirits, with gummy bear vodka and wasabi gin among the house ingredients. Reservations are mandatory, which the door code enforces rather literally. A spot on The 50 Discovery list.
