The Best Beer Bars Near LOMA by Graeme Cheevers, by the Record

  1. Stacked slate, bare stone, and wood salvaged from the Highlands line the walls of this resolutely old-school beer and whisky bar on the Finnieston strip. No cocktails, no fuss: it's what Glasgow calls a half 'n' half pub, which means you order a pint and a dram and mind your own business. The Highland interior is genuinely surprising behind an exterior that looks like it has never once considered reinventing itself.

  2. The shelves behind the bar run floor to ceiling with whisky, row after row, and the staff are used to fetching bottles down when your dram is out of arm's reach. The Pot Still is an old-school Glaswegian whisky bar, one room, Victorian cornicing, original dark varnished wood, and a raised rear gallery that the regulars treat as prime real estate. The baby-pink ceiling is a surprise nobody seems to argue with.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. It runs on the scored places nearby: more good stuff within reach, higher score. If it looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
