The Best Beer Bars Near The Parsons Table, by the Record

  1. A serious beer pub on an unglamorous stretch of the one-way system heading toward Brighton Station, neighbors including several sex shops. The Evening Star has been around forever and the cellar once housed a microbrewery that grew into Dark Star Brewing Company, whose beers still pour here. Come for the cask ales, not the surroundings.

  2. The original outpost of the Draft House chain, a specialist beer bar on Northcote Road where the tap list runs to around 18 rotating draught options and north of 40 bottles. The staff know their brewing methods, their glassware, and what pairs with what, so being lost is fine. The crowd leans toward the kind of people who read long articles about things and feel strongly about them, but they're having a good time regardless.

  3. Rank 5. The Alma

    Beer Bar

A monumental island bar runs through the center of the ground-floor saloon, and everything else follows from that fact. This is a Young's pub, so the draught list leans on the brewery's own lineup plus guest ales from Sambrook's and Twickenham, ten or so taps in total, nothing wildly adventurous but nothing to complain about either. It's a proper Victorian pub on Old York Road, the kind of place Wandsworth locals have been using as an excuse not to go home for generations.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. It runs on the scored places nearby: more good stuff within reach, higher score. If it looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
