The Best Cocktail Bars Near The Cricketers, by the Record

  1. A sliding door at the back of a fake launderette leads you into this speakeasy cocktail bar tucked inside The Breakfast Club's Clapham spot. It's the South London sibling to The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town, where the trick is a vintage fridge. Here the ruse is spin cycles and detergent shelves. Book ahead if you can, or ask nicely at the front and keep your voice down about why you're really there.

  2. The indoor cigar lounge is technically a "sampling room," which is the kind of legal creativity that keeps Scotch-and-jazz bars alive. This two-floor Canary Wharf outpost of the Belgravia original runs a crustacean and cocktail bar on the first floor alongside a heated terrace looking out over Cabot Square. Champagne and single malts do most of the heavy lifting, and pre-revolutionary Cuban cigars are available if the evening calls for it.

  5. Rank 7. Bluebird

    Cocktail Bar

The bar sits on the first floor of a former Art Deco car garage on the King's Road, reached by lift and centered on a polished steel island bar in a room that feels cathedral-large. It's a cocktail bar inside Terence Conran's old "gastrodome" project, which means the bones are ambitious and the crowd dresses accordingly. The whole thing carries the confident, slightly frozen energy of something that was very much the future once.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. It runs on the scored places nearby: more good stuff within reach, higher score. If it looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
