The Best Places to Drink and Stay in Klong Toei Khwaeng & Khlong Toei Nuae

  1. Rank 1. Bar Us

    Cocktail Bar

The menu at this cocktail bar is organized like a tasting dinner, moving through starters, mains, and afters, with combinations like beef and onion or almond and ylang-ylang landing in your glass instead of on a plate. Seating is arranged so guests face each other across a lit surface, giving the room the feel of an omakase counter or possibly a very stylish interrogation. Ranked in the World's 50 Best Bars, it helped push Bangkok's bar scene toward the savory and strange.

  2. The name comes from the physics of waves, sound and ocean both, which tells you something about how seriously this cocktail bar takes its own ideas. The bartender behind it ran both Vesper and Backstage before opening here on Thong Lo's second floor, and the drinks carry that pedigree, landing on Asia's 50 Best Bars at number five. Playful without being gimmicky, and worth lingering over.

  3. A private butler and a Bose sound system come standard in the suites at this sleek high-rise hotel on Sukhumvit 39, tucked between Phrom Phong and Thonglor, where the city's best eating and nightlife happen to collide. The 26th-floor Baan Borneo Club handles breakfast and sundowners for suite guests, and the rooftop infinity pool, thirty-odd floors above Bangkok, makes a persuasive case for staying in rather than going out.

  4. The name means "community" in Thai, which tells you something about a boutique hotel that doubles as a residential address in Thong Lo. Rooms lean 1920s glamour, with jewel-toned headboards, marble tubs, and velvet divans, while the larger suites go minimalist with full kitchens and terraces. Double infinity pools on the eleventh floor, a speakeasy bar, and a Mediterranean restaurant cover most moods without leaving the building.

  5. The residences at this Sukhumvit tower come with full kitchens, washers and dryers, and private balconies, then get serviced daily like a hotel room, which is either the ideal hybrid or proof that some guests refuse to choose. Studios through two-bedrooms share a 27th-floor pool deck reserved for residence guests, a spa one floor up, and a pair of bars downstairs for when cooking suddenly feels like too much effort.

  6. Le Labo toiletries and Thai-inspired floral detailing fill the pale, spacious rooms, which is a perfectly pleasant way to return from whichever of this hotel's many venues you closed down last night. The Fairmont Sukhumvit is a full-floor-plan kind of city hotel, with a three-floor rooftop, a pool club, a cocktail bar, and a dinner concept that runs more like theater than a restaurant.

  7. Sukhumvit somehow contains multitudes, and this boutique hotel leans into that with a mid-century modern look that wouldn't feel out of place in Brooklyn. Rooms are compact and cool, with parquet floors, vintage subway tile bathrooms, and open kitchen comfort food downstairs. The real draw is the common areas: co-working space, a podcast lounge, and a rooftop bar above the Bangkok skyline where Thai DJs spin on weekends.

  8. A private plunge pool and city skyline views come standard in the penthouse, which sets the tone for this boutique hotel on Sukhumvit 24. The wellness floor runs a Japanese onsen, sauna, and CrossFit gym alongside a saltwater pool, which is a lot of amenity for a place that also has a whiskey and cigar bar. Rooms lean into tactile materials, and the Michelin Guide has it among its selected hotels. Phrom Phong's dining and shopping sprawl begins right outside.

  9. Rank 9. 008 Bar

    Cocktail Bar

A cocktail bar on the 11th floor of the akyra Thonglor, where old typewriters and printing curios share space with a glassy, capsule-lit back bar and views of Bangkok glittering below. The mix of nostalgia and neon shouldn't work, but somehow the room holds it together. The drinks list pulls from Prohibition-era spirits, handled by a bartender who came up through Vesper, one of the city's more serious cocktail rooms.

  10. Rank 9. Alonetogether

    Cocktail Bar

A featureless door on Sukhumvit 31, a curtain to pull back, and suddenly you're in a candlelit two-storey shophouse cocktail bar named after a Chet Baker track, which tells you most of what you need to know. From the team behind Bangkok speakeasies Ku Bar and Sugar Ray, the room is retro-cosy and unhurried, built for long rounds and live jazz rather than anything louder. The 50 Best Discoveries list gave it a nod.

  11. Rank 9. Last Call Bar

    Cocktail Bar

Ten seats, all at the bar, and the cocktail list changes every week, so regulars treat each visit like a puzzle. This small Bangkok cocktail bar from the team behind Sugar Ray keeps things unhurried and a little nerdy, with chess boards, vinyl shelves, and a turntable doing most of the decorating. The drinks riff on classics without being smug about it, and the bar snacks are taken more seriously than they need to be. Book ahead.

  12. Rank 9. Rabbit Hole

    Cocktail Bar

    The awards

  13. A cocktail bar with a name this unhinged earns some goodwill before anyone orders a drink. Tucked inside the Octo Seafood Bar complex on Sukhumvit Soi 24, Sugar Ray went minimalist in its new digs but kept the looseness intact. Sit at the counter if you can; the bartenders reward the audience. Asian-inflected signatures lean on ginseng, pandan, and tea-infused gin. A 50 Best Discovery pick.

  14. Rank 14. Funkytown

    Cocktail Bar

The durian colada is either the bravest cocktail in Bangkok or a personal challenge, depending on your feelings about salty durian foam. This cocktail bar on Sukhumvit 37 runs on disco-funk and an unapologetic willingness to put curry powder in a drink. A khao soi cocktail, bar snacks that include chicken wings stuffed with fermented pork sausage, and a disco ball overhead make for a room where nobody is standing still.

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
