The Best Places in South Södermalm

  1. Rank 1. Bar Agrikultur

    Swedish Wine Bar

A wild boar's head surveys the room from above while the regulars work through small plates of cheese balls with garlic honey and pork skewers below. This Södermalm wine bar holds the Michelin Bib Gourmand and earns it on Swedish ingredients and three stainless steel tanks of house-distilled gin, with herb and fruit flavors that rotate whenever the team feels like it. Tables are tight, the stools are high, and nobody seems to mind.

  2. A vinyl record player handles the music, and a small blackboard handles the menu at this relaxed modern restaurant tucked onto an inconspicuous street in Södermalm. Three chefs pooled their fine-dining experience to open something that feels more like a dinner party at a friend's apartment. The Michelin Bib Gourmand recognizes the kitchen. If tables are full, the walk-in bar around the corner, Capri Corner, takes the sting out of a wait.

  5. Your phone is confiscated at the door, and that's not the strangest thing that will happen to you. Punk Royale is an avant-garde tasting menu restaurant where a 20-course dinner might involve vodka poured from a petrol can, a palate cleanser shot directly into your mouth, or a chef hand-feeding you Norwegian lobster. No paper menus, no expectations. The kind of place where the rules exist to be broken, loudly and expensively.

  11. This is a casual Södermalm meatball joint where the menu runs from veal and pork to reindeer, boar, and, if you're feeling brave, bear. Everything arrives with mashed potatoes, cucumber salad, and lingonberries, and a plate usually lands around $30. The space leans hard into ball puns and merch, which sounds like a warning but somehow stays on the right side of cheesy. Yes, it's a step up from the IKEA version.

  12. A spare, high-energy bistro in Stockholm where the menu quietly refuses to pick a lane. Chef Isak Oldenburg came up running restaurants in Nice, so quiche lorraine and bouillabaisse are at home here, but so are a Reuben sandwich and a solid dhal. The kitchen buys whole animals, which means offal shows up without apology. The mix sounds chaotic and somehow doesn't read that way on the plate.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
