The Best Places in Inner Sunset & Golden Gate Park

  1. Rank 2. Caché

    Seafood French

Warm tones, natural wood, and golden lighting make this Inner Sunset bistro feel like someone's very stylish living room, if that living room happened to serve buckwheat crepes and surf-and-turf crudo. The menu runs French but without the rulebook, leaning seasonal and local in a way that keeps things genuinely interesting visit to visit. Sharing plates reward a table of friends, and brunch draws the neighborhood in reliably.

  2. Underdogs Tres is a casual Mexican spot in the Inner Sunset that moonlights as a sports bar, which explains why the margaritas keep arriving for people hoarse from yelling at a television. The menu sticks to tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, with one standout: a crispy tortilla tucked inside a soft one, buried in guacamole. Come in whatever you wore to work, and maybe bring a throat lozenge.

  3. Yancy's is an Inner Sunset sports bar that looks like an antiques fair and a pool hall had a child, minus the pool table. What you get instead is a row of well-lit dart lanes, a wall of TVs, and stained glass lamps doing their best against the faded carpet and a patina of dust. Chips in the corner are the whole kitchen, and the drinks are cheap and strong enough that the decor starts to look intentional.

  4. Rank 5. um.ma

    Korean

Um.ma is a Korean barbecue spot in the Sunset where the good part is out back, so you walk through the dining room like you're looking for the bathroom and emerge into a patio full of smoke. Tabletop grills handle pork belly, bulgogi, and kal bi by the pound, R&B throwbacks play, and someone keeps topping off the soju. Order the crispy seafood pancake, and know that the grills live out there only.

  7. Kogi Gogi is an all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue spot in the Sunset, where the grill sits at your table and the dress code is whatever you already had on. The long, easygoing room suits big groups and weeknight stragglers alike, and the pork belly and bulgogi arrive thin and sweet-salty. Monday to Thursday, a flat per-person price covers four meats and three sides, so nobody has to do math over the smoke.

  8. Rank 11. Banh Mi Crunch

    Vietnamese Noodle Shop

  9. Rank 11. Manna

    Korean

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
