Anhinga Trail

A paved loop through the Everglades where alligators sun themselves close enough to make you reconsider your shoes. The Anhinga Trail starts at Royal Palm Visitor Center and runs less than a mile out and back, with a wooden boardwalk section that puts you over the water. Herons, egrets, ibis, turtles, and the trail's namesake snakebird are regulars. There's no shade, so an early start and sunscreen are less optional than they sound.
