Perched above 4,000 feet in the Allgäu Alps beside Germany's oldest castle ruins, this family-run boutique hotel exists partly because driving back down the mountain after dinner felt like a bad idea. Suites run to oak floors and knotty pine, with soaking tubs and balconies facing the valley, though one goes full Moroccan with arched doorways and a clay shower. The spa has a Finnish sauna and a wood deck pointed squarely at the Alps. Michelin awarded it one Key.
