Wengen is one of Switzerland's nine car-free villages, so you arrive by train and walk everywhere, which sets the tone nicely. This chalet hotel has been around forever and got a thorough refresh for a recent reopening, pairing pale wood and vintage travel posters with a glass-encased spa pool that looks straight out at the Alps. A restored cable car does duty as a fondue cabin for two, which is either romantic or absurd, possibly both.
