A French architect found a long-abandoned colonial villa in one of the Yucatán's quieter towns and turned it into a nine-room boutique hotel. The new wing, built by local craftspeople from stone and wood, has minimalist rooms with concrete walls, decorative tile, and private patios with indoor-outdoor showers arranged around a garden, infinity pool, and terrace. Cacti, hammocks, and herbs from the kitchen garden fill the grounds. The restaurant is the other reason people make the drive from Cancún.
