The animal-adorned wallpaper is a nod to Rudyard Kipling, who allegedly wrote The Jungle Book while staying at Brown's Hotel. It's a handsome, traditional hotel dining room: wood panelling, deep armchairs, and enough colour to stop it feeling stuffy. The menu leans Modern British with a Mediterranean drift, so the homemade pasta earns its place alongside the roasts. The kind of room that makes you feel you should be wearing a jacket, and you probably should.
