The stones in the walls came from a medieval castle the First World War destroyed, which gives this tiny B&B an unusual kind of weight. Chez Ric et Fer has two rooms and a suite, all done in a late-Modernist, early-Seventies aesthetic by the Parisian couple who run it. An hour from Paris, in a quiet village that clearly has a complicated history, it's a stylish, uncomplicated place to disappear for a weekend.
