    A family-run creative Mediterranean restaurant in the quiet town of la Nucía, El Xato has been around forever, starting as a winery before working its way up to a Michelin star. The chef builds her menus around Alicante's deep larder, reinterpreting Mediterranean tradition without losing sight of where the food actually comes from. Two tasting menus, a strong Valencian wine list, and a dining room run by family who seem to mean it.
