1. Fairmont The Norfolk

    Nairobi's grand old colonial hotel, and it wears the title without trying too hard. The white-columned lobby and tropical courtyard feel frozen in a more unhurried era, which is the whole point. Rooms have that English country house ease, and the Lord Delamere Terrace is the right place to drink proper Kenyan coffee while watching the city move at everyone else's pace. Safari crowd, diplomats, and the occasionally overdressed all find their way here.
