A private island hotel on 22 acres of lake and garden, reached by a short bridge outside Suzhou. The grounds are calibrated to bloom on a seasonal schedule the hotel actually tracks and shares, which is either charming or mildly controlling depending on your mood. An infinity pool hangs over the water; a glass-enclosed one handles the colder months. Suzhou's canal network and its classical gardens are close enough for a day out and back.
