Fukiya Ryokan

A traditional ryokan in the hot spring town of Yugawara, Fukiya is built in Sukiya style, the same restrained aesthetic you see in old teahouses, with seven configurations of tatami rooms to choose from. Private open-air baths sit alongside communal hot springs fed by the town's thermal waters. The kitchen runs a monthly kaiseki menu that turns with the seasons. Tokyo is about an hour away by train, which is close enough that this counts as an actual escape.
