Gasthaus Löwen
German
The wood-panelled dining room upstairs is old-school Swiss inn, the kind with beautifully laid tables and a fireplace that earns its keep. But the cooking is a Michelin-starred surprise menu where you choose the number of courses and the chef brings them out himself, which is either charming or slightly unnerving depending on your personality. Classical French roots run through everything, with modern and quietly global ideas folded in. The stone garden across the street opens in summer.

Saddle of roe buck
“The beautifully aged, wonderfully tender saddle of roe buck from Ennetbürgen, accompanied by a richly flavoured gin jus and delicate pasta parcels filled with subtly Asian-spiced minced venison, is a perfect example.”
