The chandeliers in the dining room are not decorating the space so much as overwhelming it, which sets the tone for a stay at this grand old Czech spa hotel. Karlovy Vary's mineral waters are the official reason to come, but the Pupp itself, baroque and slightly idiosyncratic, is the real draw. The spa leans atmospheric rather than clinical, the casino is an Eastern European classic, and nothing about it feels like a modern luxury operation. That is entirely the point.
