The kitchen garden behind this country house hotel restaurant does most of the heavy lifting on the menu, and the chef lets it. Ornate fireplaces and plaster ceilings give way to a contemporary dining room extension, which shouldn't work but does. Produce travels about fifty yards from soil to plate, and the cooking is careful enough that a simple garden salad can actually stop a conversation. One Michelin star.
