    Perched above Lago Maggiore at the foot of the Madonna del Sasso, this hotel trades on one of the better views in the Swiss-Italian borderlands. Rooms all face the lake, the spa has a pool, and the garden hides a grotto restaurant that opens when the weather cooperates. La Fontana handles dinner with an open kitchen and a terrace when you'd rather eat than squint at the horizon.
