La Grande-Motte was built from scratch in the 1960s as a modernist Mediterranean utopia, and the pyramid-shaped apartment blocks still raise eyebrows. Hôtel La Plage is the quieter neighbor: a low-lying, geometric luxury beach hotel with floor-to-ceiling glass, natural wood, and private balconies opening onto ocean views. The private beach club, with white umbrellas and a shoreside cocktail bar, makes summer here feel fairly civilized.
