Marcel Breuer's Bauhaus-inflected Brutalist block, built for a tire company and now reborn as a design hotel, gives New Haven one of the more architecturally serious places to sleep in the northeast. The interiors nod to the original rather than recreate it, solar arrays power the whole operation, and the LEED Platinum certification means the building is roughly as principled as it looks. Tapestry Collection by Hilton, yes, but the bones are unlike anything else on the block.
