Cézanne used to cut through these grounds with his easel on the way to paint Sainte-Victoire, and the four-acre garden at this 18th-century villa hotel looks much as it did then: old chestnuts, ivy-covered trellises, stone fountains. Inside, the rooms go contemporary, with metallic wallpaper the old master never saw coming. A pool, a pétanque pitch, and an onsite restaurant round things out before you remember Aix itself is just down the road.
