A country house hotel in the New Forest where the historical bones are confident enough that nobody felt the need to gild them. The interior is crisp and contemporary without erasing the house, the staff are warm without being theatrical, and the restaurant, led by Angela Hartnett, keeps things resolutely unfussy. The spa runs just luxe enough. Families are welcome, though it never tips into chaos. The Michelin Guide awarded it 2 Keys.
