    A light installation in the lobby is meant to echo the ripples of nearby West Lake, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and, conveniently, a short walk from the front door. This 13-story Shangri-La hotel sits on the northeastern edge of the lake, with open-air courtyards, four restaurants, and a spa inside. The Wulin Night Market and a scattering of parks are close enough to fill a long afternoon without planning much.
