The building's claim to fame, before it became a luxury hotel, was a 1970s bank robbery that gave the world the term "Stockholm syndrome." Now Swedish design trio Claesson Koivisto Rune has turned the 19th-century stone pile into something cooler, pairing original dark-oak-paneled rooms (the Heritage Board is watching) with a palette called "Scandinavian dark blond" and bathrooms wrapped floor-to-ceiling in Carrara marble. It holds a Michelin Key.
