Raw concrete ceilings and loft-style apartments a two-minute walk from the 19th-century city hall, which about sums up the tension Szeged wears pretty comfortably. Noir is a small apartment-hotel, 17 units, each with a kitchenette and the kind of modular, urban-minimal furnishings that make you feel vaguely like a design professional on assignment. Services are lean by design, but the historic center's restaurants are right outside, which is most of the point.
