Red stilted "rorbuer" still line the harbor at Nusfjord, a fishing village on the southern Lofoten coast where locals live alongside guests in cabins that once sheltered cod fishermen. The resort converts many into lodgings with original timbers and quiet contemporary touches, while a handful remain unmodified since the 1890s, running water included in what they've left out. It's as close as you'll get to sleeping inside a working piece of Norwegian coastal history.
