Behind an unassuming door in Chambéry's medieval center, this 15-room boutique hotel hides a genuinely contemporary interior that its 15th-century facade does nothing to advertise. Rooms run from all-black to light and Provençal in feel, and a small spa with a pool, sauna, and hammam keeps things civilized. The family owners run it hands-on, which shows. Chambéry itself is an underrated base for the Savoy Alps, all pedestrian streets and mountain access.
