    A cliff above São Miguel's southern shore, with the Atlantic spread out below and an infinity pool in the foreground, is a solid foundation for a boutique resort. Sul Villas & Spa runs just twelve suites, each with a private terrace and kitchenette, and the larger ones add plunge pools or jacuzzis. The former-pro-surfer owner can arrange dolphins and diving, but most guests seem to find the soaking tubs persuasive enough.
