The lobby looks like Belle Époque Paris reassembled by someone with very strong opinions about color, which sets the tone for the whole hotel. Two blocks from Union Square, the Marker puts most of downtown San Francisco in easy walking distance. Rooms are comfortable rather than lavish, with good linens and modern bathrooms. The in-house Italian trattoria, Tratto, is worth a stop before you head out.
