    A contractor and an interior designer bought an unremarkable roadside motel in one of California's last genuinely sleepy beach towns and turned it into a boutique stay worth seeking out. Cayucos sits a few minutes from San Luis Obispo and operates at a remove from the whole sun-bleached circus of SoCal coast life. The Pacific Motel is a block and a half from the water, selected by the Michelin Guide, and priced like it hasn't noticed.
