The Torridon

A Victorian manor sitting right on the edge of a Highland loch, with turrets and a brick facade that look lifted from a Romantic painting, The Torridon is a Forbes Four Star hotel in one of Scotland's more uncompromising landscapes. Inside, the original features stay but the furnishings skew contemporary. Rooms spread across the main house, the old stables, and a private boathouse. Rates start around £400 a night, which is the price of remoteness done properly.
