A Victorian coaching inn in the Surrey market town of Dorking, the White Horse went through a serious refurbishment that swapped out faded pub-hotel charm for something considerably more considered. Rooms run colorful and eclectic, with duck-down duvets and good bath products. The all-day restaurant leans into Surrey produce with conviction, and the bar pours local ales alongside, improbably, local wines. Charles Dickens wrote part of The Pickwick Papers here, which the place wears lightly.
