A bureau stuffed with the chef's own cookery books gives away the mood at this boutique hotel restaurant on the quieter south side of Sheffield. Tom Lawson runs a set seasonal menu, Modern British in spirit, that shifts with the market and reaches back to family memory, a cauliflower cheese that nods to his grandmother sitting alongside more classical technique. The room is warm and a little funky, the service confident without being stiff.
