    A 16th-century noble family's countryside retreat on the Arno, now a Forbes Four Star hotel and part of the Villa d'Este Group, Villa la Massa sits just outside Florence while feeling like a different century entirely. Five restored buildings spread across manicured gardens overlooking the river, and the overall effect is less "boutique hotel in Tuscany" and more "you appear to own a villa here." Pack accordingly.
