There is no WiFi and no electric lighting at Villa Laba, which is either a dealbreaker or the whole point. This small riad-style retreat sits in a coastal Berber village outside Essaouira, where days run on sunlight and nights on candlelight, with screens discouraged across the board. Rooms are rustic and handsome, dressed in local artisan work. A wood-heated hammam, an outdoor pool, and Moroccan-Mediterranean dinners round out what turns out to be a fairly convincing argument for unplugging.
