A Georgian manor set across 100 acres above the Wharfe Valley, Wood Hall has been a Norman stronghold, a Cromwellian casualty, a boys' prep school, and Britain's first pastoral ecumenical centre, before someone sensibly turned it into a country house hotel. Rooms are individually dressed with hand-crafted beds, and the Georgian Restaurant occupies the old school day room, which gives dinner a pleasantly complicated feeling.
