A koi pond with an arched bridge over water lilies does a lot of heavy lifting for a hotel lobby, but Mirbeau leans into its French manor fantasy and the grounds more or less pull it off. The 34 rooms and four standalone cottages all come with fireplaces, and most guests seem to arrive with the 14,000-square-foot spa already on their itinerary. Forbes rates it Four Star. Skaneateles is quietly lovely, and Mirbeau knows it.
