The Best Seafood Near Elephant, by the Record

  1. A cosy, rustic seafood bistro tucked into the older streets of Topsham, close enough to the River Exe that the southwest coastline feels like a reasonable commute for the fish. The fixed-price menu leans into local catch with occasional global detours, so Cornish octopus might turn up alongside salsa verde while tiger prawn wontons arrive with crispy leeks. The room is cheerful and the Michelin Guide has taken notice.

  2. A terrace perched above the Jurassic Coast with views that do most of the heavy lifting before the food arrives. This bright, airy seafood restaurant sits inside a hotel in Burton Bradstock but earns its own visit, with a menu built around prime local fish and shellfish. The room carries a light maritime touch without going full nautical nightmare. On a warm day, getting a terrace table is the entire project.

  3. A converted sardine factory right on the Looe quayside, with harbour views across to East Looe and a menu that leans hard into Cornish day-boat fish. It's a relaxed seafood restaurant, and the cooking is straightforward in the way that only works when the fish is this fresh. The sardines are the obvious order, given the building's past life. The Michelin Guide awards it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks with the pricing.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. It runs on the scored places nearby: more good stuff within reach, higher score. If it looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
