The best places to drink in Macau, according to the experts: Forbes Travel Guide, The 50, and Michelin Guide have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Vida Rica Restaurant comes out on top.

More Less

Mesa and The St. Regis Bar, Macau hold the next two places. The 50 shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Difford's Guide next.

  1. Rank 2. Mesa

    Modern Portuguese

The central bar is built to echo a traditional Chinese birdcage, which tells you something about the ambitions here. Mesa is a hotel cocktail bar inside The Karl Lagerfeld at Grand Lisboa Palace, dressed in black and gold and leaning hard into a Portugal-meets-Macau identity. The cocktails follow that same Eurasian thread, with a resident mixologist making the concept feel less like decor and more like a point of view.

  2. The house Bloody Mary arrives with chorizo, piri piri, and a miniature egg tart on the side, which tells you most of what you need to know about this cocktail bar inside the St. Regis Cotai. The menu leans into the hotel brand's New York roots while folding in Portuguese Macau at every turn. Live jazz most nights, refined bar snacks, and a room that takes the whole thing seriously without making you feel underdressed for enjoying it.

  4. A bar opposite the Portuguese consulate that spends its mornings as a stylish café and its evenings chasing rare spirits, Two Moons has a split personality that Macau seems perfectly happy to accommodate. Whisky anchors the shelves, but the collection wanders far beyond Scotland into distillates most bars wouldn't bother stocking. Coffee gets the same careful attention as the cocktails, which sets the tone for how seriously the team takes all of this.

  5. Rank 6. Wing Lei Bar

    Cocktail Bar

Mozzarella foam on a cocktail is a statement, and Wing Lei Bar at Wynn Macau is happy to make it. A cocktail bar that spent years doing the respectable hotel-lounge thing before a Scottish mixologist arrived and steered things toward the strange and genuinely exciting. The Unity menu and a rotating guest shift series give the room energy that most hotel bars spend decades pretending to have.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
